Reading Challenge: Student Edition
12 Months, 12 Books!
The Reading Challenge: Massachusetts Student Edition gives students of all ages a chance to set and meet the goal of reading a book each month in a specific category and to share their experience within their reading community. Readers of any age are invited to participate, however, our book recommendations range from Picture Book up to Young Adult.
How the challenge works (for students and families):
Choose a book that fits the monthly challenge prompt.
Local libraries and independent bookstores are great places to seek recommendations! We also have a list of recommendations for each month. See if your school, library, bookstore, or other community organization is participating by searching through the Reading Partners list below.
Once you have read your book log it with us! Each month, the student (and a parent/guardian if the student is under 13) can fill out a short form to tell us about the book and enter into a raffle. Mass Center for the Book will run drawings for prizes. Monthly participation determines eligibility.
Want to keep the whole thing offline? Track your reads on the back of the postcard and send it to us at the end of the 12 month challenge. You will be entered into a raffle drawing for books and other prizes!
Want to recommend your book to others? Fill out a “Shelf Talker” card and write what you thought about it.
Have fun and Happy Reading!
How the challenge works (for organizations):
If your school, library, bookstore, or other community organization would like to become a partner, sign up using this form and we will send you Reading Challenge cards and other materials to run the challenge.
Promote the challenge to the students in your network using book displays or word of mouth. We have book recommendation lists to download as well as graphics and other assets for the program under the Partner Resources page.
Encourage participating families to fill out a short form every month to tell us about the book if they want to be entered into a raffle to win books!
If your population of readers do not want to enter online with us then they can send in their card at the end of the 12 month challenge to be entered into a raffle drawing.
Have questions about the program? Reach out to Nina Dodge at ndodge@massbook.org.
